Medical Code of Ethics
Our Code of Ethics sets forth standards of conduct and ethical principles for the medical transcriptionist professional that all members of MedicaLock are expected to follow. Our medical transcriptionists are vigilant advocates for quality patient documentation and adhere to the highest privacy and security provisions. We uphold the moral and legal rights of patients, safeguard patient privacy, and collaborate with care providers to ensure patient safety, public health, and quality of care to the fullest extent possible, through the practice of medical transcription. Employees and independent contractors understand that employment and/or contractual work agreements may be terminated by LegaLock for failure to act in accordance with the provisions of the MedicaLock professional standards and Code of Ethics.
All MedicaLock personnel shall:
- Maintain COMPLETE confidentiality of all patient information including but not limited to peer reviews, quality improvement, and risk management protocols with special effort to maintain data security in electronic communications.
- Implement and maintain standards of professional transcription practice.
- Respect the rights and dignity of all individuals.
- Continue professional growth enhancing knowledge and skills, including continuing education, networking with colleagues, professional reading, and certification.
- Strive to provide accurate and timely information.
- Exercise integrity in professional practices including work or professional experience, credentials, affiliations, productivity reporting, billing charges, and payment practices.
- Comply with all laws, regulations, and standards governing the practice of patient documentation.
- Foster environments of employment that facilitate integrity, professionalism, and protection of patient information.
- Strive to advance the goals and purposes of the LegaLock organization and work for the advancement and good of the health care profession.
